Carlos Celdran’s latest post on the Desperate Housewive’s issue (which comically morphed into the “Cory Aquino as ’slut’” issue) led me to the news of how five Filipino nurses saved a man whose arm was bitten off by an alligator in South Carolina.
The man, who was snorkeling in a lake adjacent to where the Filipino nurses were picnicking, stumbled up to shore crying for help. The nurses worked to stop his bleeding and kept him awake until paramedics arrived.
I’m sure that Bill Hedden, the victim of the attack, would gladly feed to the ‘gators anyone who would ridicule Filipino medical professionals.

Which just goes to show that Filipino medical professionals have nothing to be insecure about. By whining over some imagined slur in some TV show by a ditsy character, theyre doing themselves a disservice. The TV company apologized already. They really should get over it.
Meanwhile, those of us back home have these doctors to contend with.

naku. i’ve heard several versions of this news feed. give it a week and it’ll sure die a natural death. it’s nice to know that Pinoys all over the world are still as vigilant as ever with our identity. i think the same stones are thrown to ASIANS, in general. Well, before them racists consider themselves the demi-gods that they are not, i think they better take a second look. we, for sure can do better. *proud*

I’ve heard that some fil-am doctors’ associations are mulling over filing a class action suit over the whole thing. I am curious as to how it will turn out, and what exactly it will achieve.

Jon, I couldn’t get the CNN video working because of “Firefox/proxy firewall” message and stupid that I am, I don’t know what to do with it. I would have wanted to watch our Filipina nurses in action.
Our Filipino nurses, doctors and all other health care workers are professionally competent … that goes for all other OFW
professionals - teachers, CPAs, computer engineers, etc. You think they’d be hired there if they weren’t competent? Nothing in this world is perfect though so we do have some bad apples - tell me which country doesn’t have bad apples! - but as a whole, I am very proud of our kababayan!
