PLDT sucks

September 27th, 2007 · 18 Comments

Replace the “S” with an “F” on the title and you’ll know how I really feel.

Our phone line died last Tuesday. People could hear the number ringing but there’s no dial tone at our end of the line. We immediately reported it to PLDT’s 173, but as usual they give all kinds of excuses for not scheduling a lineman to go to your area immediately.

A few hours ago we called again. They said that it would take 2 to 3 weeks to repair the problem. (UPDATE: For fairness’s sake, they actually got it repaired in four days)

Two to three weeks?! In this day and age of mobile technology where wired is passe, it will take them 2 to 3 weeks? If it were the 60s, 70s, or 80s, it wouldn’t be a big deal, since it took 15 to 20 years to get a phone line back then.

But we’re already in the 21st Century, and the best they could do is two to three fucking weeks. Two to three days isn’t even acceptable anymore. The sad truth is, it happens. When I shared my woes with an officemate, he said that they haven’t had a dial tone at their home phone for two weeks already.

PLDT FucksPLDT’s front page says “Think Ahead, see the future”. Of course, see the future: DO NOT subscribe with PLDT if you do not want phone downtimes of up to 3 weeks. Especially if you have a burgeoning home-based business that is totally dependent on it.

Besides, why is that guy in the picture all sweaty? Is it because of all the problems PLDT is causing him?

We asked for a rebate but the CSR tells us it would probably be reflected on the following billing period. Fuck them if they forget about that rebate, we will not.

PLDT fucks. Totally.

UPDATE: After a little more prodding, my wife managed to get a promise that a lineman would come in to look at the problem tomorrow morning. From experience, that means that the lineman would be there by noon, at the earliest.

UPDATE 2: It appears that we weren’t alone in the whole brouhaha — several other houses in our neighborhood experienced the service loss. All the complaints probably prompted PLDT to act, and finally the problem was found: someone had stolen the telephone cable at the area.

If it only weren’t a crime I’d hack to death anybody whom I’d catch stealing electrical or telephone cables. But I relatively have it easy — poor Shari has more serious problems with her neighborhood.

UPDATE 3: Oh yeah, we got our phone line back, finally. Four days. That’s a new record!

Where are you located? I think it’s dependent on the location. I’ve never had really major problems with PLDT phone line, and we’ve been subscribed with them for years. I even remember when we had 6-digit phone number. As far as I’m concerned, the service has been good, so I don’t share your sentiments.

    Mi,

Our 30+ years old PLDT line (the one with my parents) have had outages too, the worst one having lasted 5 days which prevented us from going online (dial-up days!). This happened around two years ago.

The line I’m talking about is relatively new (2 months old). We live in the Pasay area.

Good for you for not suffering the lousy service they give to the rest of us!

Exactly a year ago today (Sept 28) just after typhoon Milenyo whipped us all to submission, our line went dead, And it remained dead for a whole month in spite of the daily barrage of phone calls to their customer service center.

It was only after a blogger-friend intervened, through his “connections” within the phone company, did the repair guys miraculously appear at our door.

But still, it took them two fucking days to figure out why our line went dead. And that was only after the repair guys physically traced our line to the source of the problem.

Turns out, one of the signboards that fell during the typhoon had cut through some wires outside our building, including our telephone line.

But that wasn’t the end of my woes.

When I asked for a rebate, they gave the usual bullshit about having to investigate the cause and all that blahs before they can forward my request to their accounting department.

In the end, it took them all of six months before they were able to give me back my money…

These people will no sooner disconnect you for an unpaid bill, but in turn, will take them forever to give you back what’s due you… grabe!

Oh and btw, I’m going to use that comment as part of my entry this weekend. :-)

2-3 weeks? They’re lying. I’ve experienced the same problem thrice before (http://kaide.blogspot.com/2005/11/pldt.html). The repairman just wasn’t sent to look into the problem. When he was finally sent, the problem got fixed in a few minutes.

An officemate had a similar problem. In her case, the phone cables were stolen, but the problem got fixed in just 2 days. Weird, since stolen cables sounds a lot more serious than the causes of our phone problems.

Yeah, that sucks indeed. I’ve had problems with BayanTel a lot, though, and some people say it’s better. It really depends on the location, the placement of the lines and all that. If we still had our BayanTel line, By now, I’d probably rant a million posts about how much it sucks.

    snglguy,

Grabe ‘no, kelangan mo pa ng “koneksyon” para magka-connection. Hehehe.

    cyberpunk,

As in our case, stolen cables always means that there are more complaints from the area. At the same time, I would think their automated monitoring systems would show disconnected cableless areas as a big red dot on some map, which would also show up as a big red flag on their performance records of the maintenance people.

    Mii,

I wonder if we could find out the real circumstances as to inefficiencies in telcos. I’m betting it will all boil down to lowly-paid uncaring managers and ass-kissing middle management hiding all the crap from their big bosses.

  • 11 ems // Sep 30, 2007 at 1:18 pm

hahaha.. i know how you feel.. ive been through it too! hahaha

there was an incident before that according to PLDT lineman, the cables here in our area was stolen and it will take them AT LEAST 2 weeks to repair! WTF! Nagreklamo talaga ako sa PLDT DSL and I demanded for a rebate. In fairness din mga 4 days din ata nila naayos and they gave me around 400 PHP rebate ..

i came across this blog while researching on the number of people experiencing problems with their PLDT line. our home line has been inactive since the 2nd week of October and PLDT could not provide and explanation. Furthermore, my office line has also not been activated for almost a month now since it was installed… GRRR! PLDT says the problem is with the contractor… yeah right put the blame on someone else…

PLDT is doing it again.
