Disinterested

March 7th, 2007 · 4 Comments

I’m sure I’m not the only one who feel disinterested in this year’s elections.

Of the 24 opposition, administration and independent candidates (I don’t really consider KBL’s fieldings as real senatorial bets), I can only think of 3 or 4 persons that I might vote, and my decision to vote them is still pending some research on what laws they did pass.

Hint: I admire that guy who had the guts to stay truly independent, and that guy who didn’t stay independent but whom I’m rooting for because I’m such a sucker for real rags-to-riches stories and pro-entrepreneurship lawmakers, and that guy whom I feel is Ferdinand Marcos reincarnated but at least passed some sensible laws.

Hell, I don’t even care about our local officials. The Pasay City political arena is in shambles. I don’t even know if I can renew my Community Tax Certificate this year without needing to survive some lame bring-this-guy-back-to-City-Hall “protest action.”

It’s sickening, and tiring, and I think I might as well spend election day playing games and watching TV with CJ.

Did we discuss this? Why do we have the same plans for election day?

Hay naku, Jon, sukang-sukang-suka na talaga ako. You know, just the other night I was thinking - each time I worked in a different room, I’d always make it a point to “go home” and watch the evening news but lately - like 3 weeks already - I’ve skipped the evening news for one reason: I don’t like seeing all these clowns and jokers on TV.

“I’m sure I’m not the only one who feel disinterested in this year’s elections.”

    yep, same boat.

the sad part is— there are so many of us who think that way. no matter what rosy picture or get out the vote we try to convince ourselves, we’re disenfranchised, disillusioned at the current prospects.

    then what?

frankly, i’m leaning towards don’t care at the moment. there are other ways of contributing positively without voting or caring about the politics of the day.

    cocoy,

True true. And the choices this election are simply… lame. I mean, during previous elections we had more “color” and more viable candidates. But this time around? The administration bets are mostly trapo. And the opposition doesn’t have teeth. It appears they don’t have political will too.

    How bad could it get?

    bugsy,

True. I turn the TV off usually after PBB2, or if I let it run through that Koreanovela I just make sure I don’t leave it on when Bandila comes up.
