CJ goes swimming while daddy holds her.
CJ had her first baby-swimming lessons today. The lessons were held at an indoor pool at Somerset Hotel - Salcedo in Makati, and are conducted by the well known Bert Lozada Swim School.
At first she was afraid of the water, then next she was distracted by her classmates (she loves to look around for kids — the “socialization” overwhelms her sometimes) and mommy’s occassional photo. But towards the end of the 30 minute session she was starting to enjoy the feel of the water.
I’m sure she’s looking forward to her next lesson already.

sidney,
It is fun. Kind of a parent-child bonding thing, which is the more important point of the sessions than merely learning how to swim.
ate ems,
yup, I know. pag malaki na si cj nang kaunti i’ll probably enroll her too… pero sabi ni melynn gusto niya din so siguro sabay sila mag-aral! :p
She won’t learn how to swim per se, ang mahalaga is losing the fear of water and being released in seemingly deep water. Masyado nga mahigpit hawak ko sa kanya that session kaya next session kelangan ko baguhin yung holding style ko

This brings back memories! I was coached (in competitive swimming) by B Lozada when I was a kid. I’m glad to hear he has a swim school.
I took a baby-parent swim class with my eldest girl. I agree that it’s more about bonding than swim skills. My kids didn’t actually learn to swim until some years later. With my 2nd girl, we didn’t take the baby classes, just took her to the pool and played.
Both my kids (now 8 and 11)are comfortable enough in the water that we can take them snorkeling in open ocean where there’s surf, no side of the pool to swim to, and you can’t always touch bottom. Neither is a competitive swimmer though, they’re more into soccer.
Definitely relax, makes it more enjoyable and less tiring for both of you. Have fun!

Jon, in our time there were no swimming classes yet. My mother though was a very good swimmer. Guess how she taught us? She just threw us into the swimming pool! (Around 5 or 6 years old … she said, the earlier the better so children have not learned fear yet)
Incredible but true. And we did learn! We all swim like fish, without the gills. Warning: Not advisable for all cases.bu
